Wonder if The Cars ever noticed how much Warrant lifted from this tune for their song, “Down Boys”?…
They did improve it, but could they have existed without the band Television? Completely unique of the ones that made it, you still have to pay tribute to influences. Even if they were just on the scene and never really made it.
One of the greatest bands ever. These guys were so under rated, and yet everyone I knew when i was growing up had their albums.
Greg Hawkes brought such a unique sound with his keyboards.
hell of a performance.
hell, hell of a band.
thanks for posting it.
i love the beat and interaction and big finish between ben orr and elliot easton starting at 3:52
I remember when I heard “Let’s Go” on the radio in 1979; then I bought the album. I think I saw them first on their very first tour, and after hearing ‘Candy-O’ – I was so impressed with the effort; such a great album… And what happened to the Seventies?? Wish I had a time machine…
Elliot Easton was one of my favorite guitar players, he always put the right notes in the right place.
such an enormously talented band. They had their own sound…could not exist without each other. They each had a role to play that was integral to their success. Cars rule. NO other band like them.
Ric has never been the demonstrative one. Videos, live, interviews – just seems self conscious more than anything else. But I guess when you’re part of the creative force of the music, writing lyrics, deeply involved in the overall sound, I guess you might just be focusing. Also, I have found that the person in the band (when playing live) who sets the TIMING for the song, they tend to be more focused.
Like John Paul Jones in Led Zep was the time keeper of the song so couldn’t be flashy.
Easiest way to see difference is seeing “Live”.
Check “It´s not the night live” only Live Ben +Ric shared vocals in Youtube. Their voices sounds NEVER similar in Live.
Vocal in studio version can deceive people a lot with a lot of methods. I heared Roy Thomas Baker, producer of 1-4 LPs, add Ben´s voice on Ric´s voice to make Ric´s vocal sounds better + some songs really sound so.
From the legendary “Musikladen” (Germany) performance! Everyone is at the top of their game here! And Ben’s bass is just awesome.
This is one of the all time great rock songs. Period.
But I didnt know John Denver played the Keyboards on this one.
What IS the meaning of “Orangy Sky”!? Must be Ric needed a rhyme to fit in the song, and that’s what hit him. Blueberry pie? Nope.. Pack of Lies? Hmm.. no.. Orangy Sky! That’s it!
To Cars fans they’re distinct- Ric’s voice has the “Riccups.” On the track “You Wear Those Eyes” on Panorama, Ric and Ben alternate the lead vocals and the difference is pronounced there.
Your right.Thats real showmanship and that they love playing together.Ben R.I.P.good post dude
EE rocks. Bye Bye love is a great song. Nice performance esp. the interplay between Elliot and Ben at the finale.
notice how Ric looks bored outta his skull? Is it me or does Ben and Ric sound just alike when they sing??
how old were you when you first heard this song???
that keyboard solo is amazing
not techically difficult, just awsome
I don’t really know why but I love the line “it’s just a broken lullaby”.
the first time I heard this song it was something special to me. musically , lyrically, conceptually !
it’s a wonderful song, one of my very special listening experiences
