hybrid cars
Hybrid vehicles are predicted to carve out 2.5% – 2.8% market share of new vehicles sold in 2008. The 2008 Toyota Prius hybrid again leads the pack accounting for 50% of all hybrids sold.  This over-achieving fuel efficient gas/electric hybrid recovers energy from the braking system when the brakes are applied and uses that energy to charge a battery.

Many other car manufacturers, including Honda, Ford and Chevy, marketed fuel efficient hybrids in 2008 with limited success.  But their efforts continue as the industry goes green.  Toyota has three of the top five best selling hybrid cars (see below).

Best Selling 2008 Hybrid Cars:

1. Toyota Prius

2. Toyota Camry

3. Honda Civic

4. Toyota Hylander

5. Ford Escape

Currently Toyota uses Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries in the Prius and other 2008 Hybrids.  The engine is called “Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD)”, a refinement of the original Toyota Hybrid System (THS) used in the 1997-2003 Toyota Prius.  The name was changed to accommodate usage outside the Toyota brand.  Toyota describes HSD-equipped vehicles as having E-CVT (Electronically-controlled Continuously Variable Transmission).

Toyota is expected to continue leading other manufacturers in fuel efficient automobiles over the next few years.  Toyota will be introducing lighter materials (carbon fibre and aluminum) and plug-in Lithium-Ion batteries with a goal of achieving 90 mpg.

Honda employs a parallel drivetrain with an electric motor mounted between the engine and transmission.  Honda calls it’s technology “Integrated Motor Assist (IMA)”.  IMA wasfirst introduced on the Insight in 1999.   It uses an electric motor mounted between the engine and transmission.  The implementation employs a parallel drivetrain..

A spokesman for GM recently predicted that 4 out of 5 cars sold in the year 2020 will be fuel efficient hybrids as a result of increasingly tougher emissions standards.  More information on 2008 hybrids.

hybrid cars
Most hybrid cars are made for fuel efficiency. But you can further squeeze the extra mile to buy a gallon of gasoline, adapting the same good driving habits in your gasoline-engine vehicles.

1. Techniques tread brake (Go easy on the brake). Your car has a hybrid regenerative braking system that recaptures energy lost from braking is stored and returned to the battery. If you brake slowly, you give your electric motor more time to store power thus, recovering more energy back to the batteries. If you brake hard and abrupt, the regenerative braking system will not be able to recapture much of this energy and your brakes will take most of the work.

2. Driving at slower speeds. When you drive at slow speed, you will run the electric motor. This saves a lot of gas. Also require high-speed driving your engine to produce extra energy to push the car forward and push through the air. Gas is more used to the Aerodynamic drag. (Note: the air is denser in the snow, rain and wet conditions. This makes the engine more fuel to push the vehicle through the air.)

3. Avoid quick acceleration. The electric motor can only give your car a certain amount of power. When you need speed and step on the gas pedal, the combustion engine kicks in to provide extra speed you need, so it is more fuel. Rapid acceleration in gasoline or diesel-engine cars wastes a lot of energy and therefore the hybrid vehicle. If you need to speed up, do so gradually, if possible.

4. Check tire pressure. Tires are made to improve safety and ride quality. This is not really made for efficiency, but actually you can use the tires need to increase gas mileage. Use and maintain maximum tire pressure recommended for the car in the sidewall psi and not provided by the manufacturer on the doorframe. Also use low-resistance tires for better mileage.

5. Avoid rush hour. Stop-and-go traffic consumes a lot of gas.

6. Using low octane gasoline. Not only is cheaper, is actually a vehicle that is designed to run well on lower octane gas. Check your manual.

7. Glide. If you are comfortable with driving back and forth to neutral, you can get the best out of your speed. Coasting in neutral gives you a longer cruise and better use of energy.

hybrid cars
Hybrid cars are currently regarded as very beneficial to the conservation of the environment. This is because the price of fuel and the harm it contributes to our surroundings has become really uncontrolled. The rationality behind this is that hybrid cars don’t mainly rely on fuel for their power, but they also make the best use of electricity. That leads to lower quantity of fuel consumption and lower emission of air polluting gasses.

A hybrid car merges an electrical motor and petrol engine to supply adequate force to the vehicle with minimal fuel usage and less emissions. They’re also far more useful for day-to-day purpose than pure electric-powered automobiles and far more fuel-efficient than pure gasoline-powered automobiles. Fusing the two sources of power, a newly-created vehicle will be comparatively non-polluting and will result in less fuel intake. This entails that it produces plenty of power to deliver highway speeds without wasting too much fuel; plus it is likewise neat for the stop-and-go driving in traffic heavy areas.

The hybrid car was produced to satisfy the demand to keep the environment clean from pollutions and in order to rely less on fuel resources. It is not required to plug the hybrid into an electric wall socket to be able to recharge it. They continually re-charge themselves by using the power normally lost during cruising and braking and they could as well be charged by the vehicle’s gasoline engine.

Hybrids do tender more benefits than the regular cars with gasoline engines. Here is a brief list of some rewards hybrid cars extend.

1. Advanced pollution control.

One of the elements that lead to the greenhouse effect and its damages is the pollution in the air. It’s a reality that the nonstop harm to our ozone layer is caused by the dangerous chemicals like carbon dioxide, which are emitted by vehicles and transmitted into the atmosphere. The amount of carbon dioxide exhausted by a hybrid vehicle is primarily dependent on the amount of fuel it consumes; therefore the hybrid cars can be a leading factor in halting the progress of the global warming. As already stated, this is because hybrids don’t use just gas in order to operate – they also employ electricity, a power source that does not wreak any risk to the environment.

2. Efficiency and operation.

Because the power is received from 2 sources hybrid vehicles get smaller engines than the regular gas autos. The smaller engines are closer to the optimal power requirements for engines that will contribute to a more effective operation.

3. Better miles-per-gallon ratio.

The evident advantage of a hybrid vehicle is that it keeps the gas expenses low. With the utilization of a hybrid car, you are capable to save money. You don’t have to buy gas 2-3 times a week or afterwards each long trip because you can go a few hundred miles just on one tank.

4. Your investment acquires additional value

A hybrid vehicle may hold back a higher resale value. Whenever you need to trade in or sell a previously owned hybrid you can be certain that you will get a decent deal for it.

5. Hybrid automobiles can assist in lowering your taxes

Tax discounts are presented to hybrid car owners, so if you purchase a hybrid car you achieve additional savings through the extra tax withholding allowances. Please, always check with IRS on the latest rules.

In spite of numerous beneficial uses and advantages, there’s one matter to consider in viewing the hybrid cars. For some people they may not be yet affordable at the current market prices but you should remember that your investment will pay out ten-fold.

hybrid cars
Once you bring home your hybrid car, you might start to wonder if you’ll ever get used to it! Why you might ask? Because it is an entirely different experience than you are used to from your conventional car. So here are some things you can consider to make that “getting-to-know-you” stage with your new hybrid car a lot easier for you:

-Hybrid vehicles are more quiet companions. A hybrid vehicle has a smaller engine, thus making them much less noise. So in your usual drive on a freeway, you do not have to turn up the radio volume to 26 just to hear the sounds over the engine, as you do in your conventional can, you can leave it low and still be able to hear every sing word. Moreover, the very quiet vehicle could very well present a problem for those with impairments. Be extra careful with the blind, the deaf, and children too, because they may not notice you coming. Be sure you take steps to slow down, or at least observe when there are blind people about or children, to reduce or totally eliminate accidents with them.

-Hybrid vehicles are smaller. You may be used to driving that spacious sedan, and bringing along all that you may need on a trip, far or near. Don’t be surprised when your hybrid has less space for leg room, or for bringing along your dog and cat, along with your tents too. Learning to pack only what you need instead of things that you wont need will help cut down on the lack of space.

-With your Hybrid vehicle, you now seem to have more money in your wallet. Now you do not spend or run out of cash much faster than before. That’s because you do not have to buy gasoline as often, or have oil changes right away. You can then spend your extra money on many other things you like.

-Hybrid vehicles remind you about maintenance. Normally, you remember about oil changes only when you run into serious problems like stalling while you’re heading toward some traffic. In a new hybrid car, however, it will tell you when you are running low and need to get more oil. Isn’t this an efficient manner to ensure that your car is running at its best? This way, you are spared from expensive repairs because you know early on if there will be need for repairs and maintenance.

-Hybrid vehicles may save you money on car insurance. Responsible drivers are a great plus to insurance companies, and are not eco-friendly vehicle owners responsible too? How the car insurance companies love them. See, with purchase of a new hybrid, there is usually a decreased insurance bill—even if the car is brand new.

So, does it really matter whether you are driving a hybrid or a conventional car? You bet! The wheel is there alright, the brake and accelerator too, but how about a whole new world of difference? Sounds like a great idea to me!

hybrid cars
Looking for hybrid car dealers? In this article I cover the topic in the following sections. First, I discuss how hybrid car buying works. Second, I talk about hybrid car brands. Next, I talk about online car purchasing deals. Lastly, I talk about buying hybrid cars through classified advertisements and your local car dealer.

Introduction

As more people are becoming open to the technology of hybrid and as more consumers actually buy such kind of cars, the more people are also being curious on how they can buy these cars. Although it may seem to b a new technology, finding cars like these isn’t really that hard to do. In fact, unknown to many, a lot of hybrid dealers are out there, just waiting to be asked for whatever car they have to offer.

How The Deal Works

In reality, buying this kind of vehicle is just the same as buying a regular car. Hence, there’s really no problem on where you should go or find deals; simply because they’re everywhere! Considering the popularity of hybrids nowadays, you wouldn’t have problems in spotting such kind of deals. So, here are some tips on where and how you could find different dealers that can suffice your hybrid needs.

It’s A New Thing

One thing that you should realize when hunting for a good environmental friendly car is that such kinds of models are relatively new. Hence, they could only be bought from stores that sell them first hand. It would be quite impossible or rather extremely rare for you to find them in stores that sell second hand vehicles. It would also be rare to find someone selling his/her second hand hybrid.

Nevertheless, the good thing is that new dealers are starting to stock them even more each day. This is especially true, since more people are now getting more curious about these vehicles and finding hybrid car dealers.

Starting With A Brand

Before heading out to look for dealers, it is recommended that you have a car brand in mind. In this way it would be easier to spot deals that are relevant to what you are looking for.

If you’re starting with a brand, there’s really not much to worry about since almost all manufacturers, such as, Toyota, Chevrolet, Nissan, BMW and Ford are all in this kind of industry already. In fact, such companies are getting more pressured each day to produce the best hybrid they can create due to the incessant need for alternatives to expensive fuel.

Searching For Hybrid Car Dealers Online

For starters, the Internet would be a pretty good place to start your search for various car deals. This would be highly recommended if you think you’re not up to getting sales talked yet by a car salesman. Additionally, this method would also be helpful in letting you know more first about the features that the vehicle you are eyeing for has.

Nowadays, car deals are very rampant in cyberspace. It is possible for you to find different Web sites on the Internet that has various offers for hybrid cars. In fact, you could even get different quotations for various dealers. However, you should understand that the key to getting a good deal online is by having good research skills.

Try your best to get to know more info on the car that you want. You could also compare and contrast vehicles that different manufacturers offer. It would also be helpful if you read reviews online, both by experts and consumers to get more realistic feedback with your research. Once you feel that you are well-informed and ready to face a salesman, all you have to do is contact the Web site that you are interested on inquiring with.

Explore Your Newspapers’ Classified Ads

One classic way of looking for hybrid car sellers would be your local paper’s classified ads. There are companies that advertise on papers and if they’re on your locality, then it would really be easy to drop by for a visit. However, you should be wary that you shouldn’t look on the second hand section of the ads, since as said earlier, most hybrids are not yet available in that kind of market.

Try Your Local Stores

If you’re looking for first hand experience, then you should try to observe your locality and see where you could find stores that sell cars. You could go directly to the manufacturer’s shop, if there’s any in your place or buy from hybrid dealers. Don’t hesitate to ask them if they have any promos or special offers, especially for hybrid vehicles.

hybrid cars
The price of fuel and the damage it brings to our environment has become more severe, and because of that, hybrid cars are currently considered as very beneficial to the preservation of the environment and natural resources. The reason behind this is that hybrid vehicles do not depend mainly on fuel for it to have power, but it also makes use of electricity resulting to a smaller amount of fuel consumption and less emitted air pollution.

List of hybrid cars should be provided so that people have options on what particular brand can be the best for fuel economy– is it hybrid suv, toyota hybrid car?

A hybrid car integrates an electric motor and gasoline engine to provide sufficient power to the vehicle with least fuel usage and fewer emissions. They are also far more fuel-efficient than purely gas-run cars, and far more practical for daily use than purely electric-powered cars. Integrating the two sources of power, a vehicle then is developed that is relatively non-polluting and will lead to less fuel consumption which means it possesses enough power to have freeway speeds that does not require too much fuel, it is also great for the stop and go driving in traffic laden areas.

The hybrid car was designed due to the result of the demand and clamor to clean the environment from pollutions and for the need to rely less on fuel consumption. To be able to recharge, plugging the hybrid into an electric outlet is not a necessity. They are charged by themselves by means of power usually lost during coasting and braking and can also be charged by the car’s gasoline engine.

It can offer many benefits than the usual regular gasoline engine type cars. Here is a list of a number of advantages hybrid cars offer.

Pollution is less promoted

It is a fact that the continuous ruin to our ozone layer is due to the greenhouse effect, and one of the factor that is contributing to its damage is pollution in the air, in which hazardous chemicals are transferred to the air, like carbon dioxide that are emitted by cars. The measure of carbon dioxide emitted by the hybrid vehicle is principally relative to the quantity of fuel it consumes; thus hybrid cars can extremely be a contributing factor in minimizing the advancement of global warming.

With the utilization of hybrid cars, fewer fuel is used because hybrid car do not totally use gas in order to operate, it also makes use of electricity, a power source that does not bring any danger to the environment.

More mileage with minimal fuel consumption

Another clear advantage of hybrid car is that it saves on gas. With the utilization of hybrid vehicles, you are able to save gas money because you don’t need to buy gas after every long trip wherein you can go several miles consuming less fuel.

hybrid cars
More and more people are turning to hybrid cars these days because of their promise of lesser fuel consumption and environmental friendliness. Hybrid cars, because they run on both fuel and battery-powered engines, eat up less fuel, thereby sparing the consumer the pain of falling prey to price pressures in the world oil market. In addition, it also emits significantly less smog pollutants in the air, compared to traditional fuel-operated cars. Indeed, there are a lot of advantages to owning hybrid cars. This is why even the US government is starting to show support by welcoming more models into the country and by encouraging American auto makers like General Motors and Ford to make more units.

Here are some of the advantages of hybrid cars:

1) Efficiency – Hybrid cars are electrically operated and are thus able to function well and consistently at any motor speed. This is in contrast to conventional gas-powered engines, which tend to produce less power in low revolutions per minute episodes. Hybrid cars do not need to use transmissions to make their engines run at full capacity even at reduced speeds.

2) Economy – One of the advantages of hybrid cars is that the feature called “regenerative braking”. Since a hybrid car works using both electric power and fuel power, each can function by itself or conjunction, depending on which is stronger at the time of use. This means that both engines complement each other and do not simply bog one when one of them becomes weaker.

3) Convenience – Because hybrid cars are part battery powered, they do not create huge holes in the pocket, compared to users of traditional cars who feel the pain of the continuing oil price increases. Most hybrid cars, particularly the ones that are made in Japan, are also more compact and lightweight, making them easier to maneuver on the road. Other models, particularly those by American and European car makers also do not deviate from the stylish designs their regular counterparts adopt, so users don’t have to feel they are being left out in the style department.

4) Sustainability – Sure, hybrid cars are fairly new, so their immediate impact on the environment cannot be foreseen in the short term. However, over the course of time, the next generations will definitely be thankful for having a clean, pollution free world, thanks in part to hybrid vehicles.

Some critics say that it is not the time to buy hybrid vehicles because they are expensive. However, when you consider the advantages, you really shouldn’t think twice. While you must be discerning in choosing the right model for your needs, this doesn’t mean you start hesitating. After all, when more people start buying hybrid cars, manufacturers will see the need to produce more and eventually bring its price to very affordable levels.

hybrid cars
Automakers are facing energy instability and higher gas prices, and customers are demanding cleaner and more economic solutions. The hybrid phenomenon is about saving time and money at the fuel pump, but it’s also about saving a part of the world every day. Transportation is responsible for about a quarter of the greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere, and the United States is the greatest greenhouse gas contributor on the planet.

The hybrid phenomenon is allowing drivers to change the earth and feel good about it. In business and commerce, hybrid dollars help stimulate economies and create jobs. The shift also is creating global virtual communities and empowering people to promote environmental sustainability. The phenomenon shouts globally and acts locally every day.

4 Types of Hybrid Cars

FULL HYBRID The most efficient and widely used hybrids are called full hybrids, which can run on electricity alone. At low speeds, full hybrids can use batteries, computers, and a complicated transmission to move the car without burning any fuel. The Toyota Prius has sufficient technology to run electrically for several miles. This feature increases gas mileage and eliminates smog and noise pollution.

MILD HYBRID Hybrids that rely mainly on an internal combustion mechanism are called mild hybrids. The electric motor increases efficiency by assisting the engine. But it cannot move the vehicle on electricity alone. Mild hybrids provide the same driver benefits as full hybrids, but to a lesser degree. They use common transmissions and are cheaper to manufacture than full hybrids so they cannot be converted to plug-ins.

LIGHT HYBRID Light hybrid cars do not recycle energy, although they perform as typical hybrids in other ways. They reduce fuel consumption by shutting the motor down when the vehicle is stopped. The stopping and restarting of the engine is computerized so the driver need not be bothered with this process.

PLUG-IN HYBRIDS. Plug-in technology is the next step in making full hybrids into electric vehicles. Plug-ins use larger battery packs that can tap into external electricity. Drivers make use of all the benefits of full hybrids to a greater degree and can fill up with electricity.

How They Will Affect our World and our Future

The hybrid phenomenon is playing a noteworthy role in the future of jobs, companies, economies, and countries-as well as in our world-view of gas, transportation, and the environment. After all, our cars connect everything in our lives, from family to work to recreation to the surroundings, and trucks deliver almost everything we consume.

Benefits of hybrid technologies go well beyond gas mileage and saving money. They lead toward new applications and platforms. The hybrid has the potential to move to greater innovations for a growing number of goods and services.

Hybrid cars can potentially increase the efficiency of almost any fuel and class of vehicle. The tradeoff in cost seems minimal compared with the growing number of benefits. If users continue their present rate of investment, hybrid technology will surely become the core technology of the automobile industry.

Surveys indicate that many hybrid owners joined the hybrid phenomenon not only to help themselves, but also to help the world. Drivers conserve money on gas, leaving more oil for other purposes. They relish quiet rides allowing others to breathe cleaner air. They get to feel confident and content about the car they own. Their hybrid cars recycle energy and demonstrate how to get the most out of life while saving our oil reserves and our earth.

hybrid cars
Utilizing the latest in advanced technology, hybrid cars might just provide a glimpse into the future of automobiles. Hybrid cars sport sleek and futuristic looks, but these cars aren’t just for show. These scientific marvels make use of both electric and gas power to make for a cleaner, more cost efficient, and environmentally friendlier car.

As the world’s supply of oil inevitably runs out and the prices of gasoline continue to skyrocket to staggering new heights, more and more people have begun to look for an alternative way to power their cars, as well as to save some money. Thankfully, the rise of hybrid cars are providing a much needed solution to these problems and more. The popularity of hybrid cars continue to grow as more people begin to realize the many advantages that hybrid cars hold over conventional ones.

So, what is a hybrid car and how does it work?

As the name suggests, hybrid cars utilizes a combination of different technologies. Hybrid cars use an electric propulsion system together with of a gas propulsion system to great effect.

Hybrids cars consist mostly of the same basic parts as normal gas cars. They contain a gasoline engine, a fuel tank, batteries, and a transmission. The difference is that hybrid cars also contain an electric motor and in some cases a generator, that work in conjunction with the gasoline engine to run the transmission.

A hybrid car can work in different ways.

In a parallel hybrid system, both the gasoline engine and the electric motor are connected to the transmission. The car alternates between the two and sometime uses them together. It typically works by using the electric motor to power the car at lower speeds and once the car reaches a certain speed, the car will automatically switch to the gasoline engine to give it extra power.

Other cars use what is called a series hybrid system. In this method, the gasoline engine is used to power a generator. The generator is responsible for charging the batteries that power the electric motor, which in turn, turns the transmission causing the car to move. The gasoline engine in a series hybrid never actually runs the car directly.

Some of the later hybrid models have a feature that stores up the kinetic energy that is built up when braking and uses it to further charge the car’s batteries.

The biggest advantage of a hybrid is that it uses a lot less fuel than normal cars. Hybrid owners will be very happy with the mileage that these cars are capable of.

It also helps that hybrid cars tend to be built with lighter materials like aluminum and plastic. The engine is also typically smaller and specially designed to consume less fuel.

Environmentalist will also be very pleased with hybrids seeing as how they emit far less air pollution. Using a hybrid car helps makes our world a cleaner and more beautiful place to live in.

The government is also very fond of hybrid cars. So much so that they’re offering buyers tax incentives and other benefits. In some states, hybrid car owners can drive their hybrids in the high occupancy lane, even if they’re all alone in their cars.

The earlier hybrid car models tended to have unique and special designs, but as more and more manufacturers are catching on to the hybrid craze, they have begun to create hybrid versions of their normal cars. The Honda Civic Hybrid for example, looks more or less exactly like a regular Civic.

Buying a hybrid car will inevitably cost more than a regular one. However, the money that is saved from the lower fuel consumption, along with the tax deductions will eventually make up for the extra cost of a hybrid. Those who drive frequently will be the ones that benefit most from this.

With all the of the benefits that hybrid cars give, it’s no wonder that they’re so quickly gaining in popularity. Hybrid owners figure that it’s an excellent way to save money on gas and it gives them a good feeling, knowing that they’re making a difference in the environment.

So those who are in interested should go seriously consider owning one and join the ever growing number of people who are stepping into the future with hybrid cars.
