If you suffer from any kind of back pain problems, then to quote Michael Jackson “You are not alone”.
As most people at some time in their lives will have back pain that interferes with their work, routine activities, sex life or recreational pastimes, you are definitely not alone.
Back pain problems are the most common cause of job related disabilities and contribute to an alarming amount of employee absenteeism. Fortunately enough, most occurrences of acute (short term) back pain can be relieved within a few days with the proper treatment; however more serious occurrences can take much longer and may lead to a more serious condition (chronic back pain) if not treated correctly.
Most acute back pain problems are caused by trauma to the lower back either from a sports injury, lifting, car accident or from working around the house or garden. Generally the more unfit the person is, the more likely this kind of trauma may occur. Symptoms may be in the form of muscle aches, shooting or stabbing pains. Pain can also radiate from one part of the body to another depending on the type of injury occurred, a common problem is a bulging disc.
A chronic back pain problem is measured by its duration – pain that continues for more than 3 months is considered chronic. It is often progressive and the cause can be difficult to determine.
It is unfortunate that a lot of people neglect to deal with the pain at its onset, and continue to keep going as if nothing has occurred. They may do minor things to help with pain relief, but when it happens again and more and more frequently, they now realise that they have a more serious issue to address and curing their back pain now becomes a priority.
It is important to know just what is happening in your body and more importantly what is causing those conditions to arise in the first place. Dealing with the pain and not the cause of the pain is not the answer and unless you deal with it in a timely manner it will be too late by the time it gets to the place where you just cannot work and you end up having to have surgery.
People do not realise that the majority of treatments they receive for their back pain problems only address the symptoms. Pain is the signal to let you know that there is something wrong, and getting rid of the pain will not eliminate the cause of the pain. Curing back pain is possible if you correct the muscle imbalances that occur in the body but most people are not even aware of this and it is the last bit of information that a general practitioner will pass on.
The good news is that it is easy to find out where these muscle imbalances are on your own body. It only takes a short time for you to know what you are looking for when working with the right programme.
No one knows your body like you do, and nobody cares about your health like you do. Even if you are working with great professionals, it is worth taking the time to educate yourself. Knowledge is the key to everything and with a wealth of knowledge at our finger tips it is now easier than ever before to educate ourselves and to keep our options open.
